Picture
1:
The picture shows that a wife is washing clothes and the husband is sitting in an armchair reading newspapers, smoking and saying: Oh, darling, put off the washing until tomorrow. Its Womens Day today.
The social problem
reflected here is that though we have done a lot for women, it is far from
enough and effective. Our government has made laws to protect women and
children. And we have set up Womens Day and various social organizations for
women. But we should notice that all these are superficial (ʽ). People still resist the equality between men and women subconsciously.
And in our daily life, all kinds of inequality do exist. So there are still a
lot of things to do.
Picture 2:
The picture shows that a woman is at a job
interview, in which the interviewer says: Im sorry, madam. But we dont think
women are suitable for this job.
This picture reflects a very serious unequal
treatment between men and women. In the job-hunting market, you can easily find
a simple truth: male graduates fareչbetter than their female
classmates. For graduates in the same major, a female student may find it far
more difficult to sign a satisfactory contract though she achieves higher
grades than a boy, sometimes for the simple reason that she is not a man.
Employers reject women for various reasons.
They may say that some jobs dont suit women. They point out their female
employees will have babies sooner or later, and this will cause a lot of
trouble. Some employers believe that women are not as devoted as men, since
they have families to take care of. Some employers claim that they dont
discriminate against female graduates, but in fact, they mostly employ men.
Picture 3:
The picture shows the double burdens that most women are faced with. It shows that at home the woman is a busy housewife, and at the office she is a busy professional woman. I think double burdens here means that on one hand, women need to work, and on the other hand, they must do most of the housework. They are under great pressures.
Nowadays, most
women have their own jobs. Of course this is an advance. And this is one of the
achievements of Womens Liberation Movement. But I think womens role remains
unchanged to a certain degree. In most parts of the world today, women work
because their families need more money. However, their outside jobs often give
them less freedom, not more, because they still have to do most of the
housework. Women actually have two full subconsciously time jobone outside and
the other at home. For most husbands, their wives should devote themselves to
their jobs only to the extent that they wont lose their jobs. ע2.
